What is Preeclampsia and What the impact for Mom and baby?

When pregnant, there are a lot changes that Mom experienced, starting from physical change to hormonal change inside the body. Sometimes there are diseases or complications that occur because of the pregnancy. One of the diseases is preeclampsia. This condition begins with high blood pressure, even though Mom doesn’t have this disease history before pregnancy. Preeclampsia is also can be seen by excess protein in urine, swelling on feet and hands at the end of the pregnancy. That is why, it’s important for Mom to take care the fetus growth remembering that preeclampsia could occur when Mom’s pregnancy is 7 months.

Preeclampsia could be told dangerous because more than 500 millions pregnant mom in the whole world could passed away caused by complication during pregnancy. Around 15% is caused by preeclampsia. Not just pregnant mom, preeclampsia also cause 1000 babies passed away every year. Unfortunately, there is still no cure for this, but pregnant mom could reduce the symptoms by knowing about the risk and how to handle it.

What are the preeclampsia impacts to Mom and fetus? Here’s the explanation.

Preeclampsia impact for Mom

Preeclampsia could happen because placenta didn’t work well which caused by placenta abnormality. It’s not just that, malnutrition, high fat, insufficient blood flow to the uterus, genes may lead to preeclampsia that could happen when the fetus is in the age of 7 months.

Pregnant Mom that have a severe preeclampsia usually followed by seizure. It will become a serious health problem if Mom just left it untreated. Placenta, kidneys, liver, brain, blood system and other organ that Mom has will at risk and end up with pregnancy problem and health disorder with the fetus.

Preeclampsia impacts to the fetus

When having preeclampsia it’s not just Mom get the risk, also 7 months old fetus. The main effect is fetus will have malnutrition because of insufficient uterus blood flow to the placenta. This will cause the lateness to the growth of the baby in the womb, premature birth, and stillbirth.

Much worse, preeclampsia also increase the long term risk related to premature birth, such as learning disorders, epilepsy, deaf, cerebral palsy, and blind. So, it will be better if Mom could prevent preeclampsia before it happens.

How to prevent preeclampsia

Seeing the preeclampsia risk that happen to the fetus at the age of 7 months, it’s better if Mom consume calcium and vitamin more to prevent it. What is most important that Mom should pay attention to is frequently checkup according to the doctor suggestion. With doing a frequently checkup, signs of preeclampsia will be detected so it could be treated sooner.

Doctor will do a urine test to know protein content in it. Because protein in urine is a symptom of preeclampsia. Some other signs are headaches, nausea, vomiting, changes in vision and upper abdominal pain.

Prevention is better than medication. As much as possible, Mom should prevent preeclampsia so the fetus growth constantly optimal.
