Do Alternative Nutrition Appropriately

Who does not want to give the best for the Little One? One of them is about nutrition for the baby. For the Little One, especially those under the age of 6 months, the best option is to give an exclusive breastfeeding to meet the nutritional needs of the early life.
However, not infrequently that Mommy encounters obstacles when breastfeeding the Little One, such as breast infections (mastitis), which then causes the Mommy to consult a pediatrician for fear of a decrease in nutrient intake for the Little One. Although not the same as breastfeeding, alternative nutritional sources can be recommended by doctors to meet the nutritional needs of the Little One is well met.
When the Little One is recommended to obtain additional nutrients, Mommy must be careful in giving it. Not infrequently, these extra nutrients are given in the same bottle as breast milk. This method is not wrong, but is less recommended.
Give it in separate bottles
Breastfeeding and additional nutrients given in one container should be immediately spent at one time. If not finished consumed, then the milk mixture should be disposed of within a maximum of two hours from the time it is made. This is because the bacteria can grow from the Little One’s saliva mixed with milk.
Breast milk given in a separate bottle can be stored in the refrigerator for several hours even though it has been partly drunk. Bacteria are not easy to grow because breast milk contains many antibodies.
For this reason, pediatricians and lactation consultants generally recommend breast milk and additional nutrients are given in separate bottles. Give breast milk first, as much as possible, then add alternative nutrients when necessary. Thus, no breast milk is wasted away.
Things to Be Considered
Some things that Mommy must consider when giving a mixture of breast milk and additional nutrients, are:
Select a complete additional nutrition
The content of alternative nutrients certainly can not be equated with breastmilk because no one can match the composition of breastmilk. However, although not the same, these alternative nutrients are designed to have the composition as similar as possible. The Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) oversees the ingredients, so that the main content (the amount of energy, carbohydrates, and protein) is relatively the same between one type of alternative nutrient and the other.
Choose products that fortify additional nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin B12, choline, DHA, alpha lactalbumin, calcium, probiotics and prebiotics, which will support brain development, provide multiple protection, and ensure optimal growth.
Pay close attention to the ways of making and giving the alternative nutrient
Dissolve the alternative nutrient according to the instructions contained in the package. Make sure the powder and water doses are appropriate for maximum nutritional composition. Do not dissolve the powder using breast milk for the Little One to get high calories in one drink. This will change the composition of breast milk. Micronutrients in the alternative nutrient also will be come more concentrated that will burden the Little One’s kidney work which is still not perfect.
Although doctors may have recommended additional nutrition, Mommy still has to make a maximum effort to keep the breast milk production to be active. Breastfeed or pump the milk as often as possible to increase milk supply.
