Can They Feel Stress??

Moms, even though they are still very young, it turns out that the children can also feel stress. Let’s find out the things that can make them stress and how to overcome them.

 

Stress is a reaction that arises because of the changes in physical and/or mental balance. Stress can give a negative impact on a person, but stress can also be a positive thing if it is motivating someone to be a better person. Stress, whether it is positive or negative, will greatly affect someone’s life as a whole.

 

Obviously, stress does not spare the age, so from children to adults can feel stress. Then what can trigger the children to feel stress? What kind of problems that make them stress? Because compared to adults, of course the problem faced by the children is not heavier than adults’. But because they don’t know how to manage the stress, we can’t equate their problems with adults’.

 

Some things that can be a trigger for the children to feel stress could be family problems (quarreling parents, divorced, deceased of a family member, or an unfavorable family economy); problems at school (poor grades, bad performance, or quarreling with friends); illness; trauma; adapting to a new environment; puberty; and so on.

 

Just like an adult, children do not know that they are experiencing stress. Therefore, it is very important that Moms recognize the signs, which are:

  1. Sleeping difficulty or often having nightmares
  2. Getting upset or cry easily (difficult to control the emotions)
  3. Becoming more aggressive
  4. Low appetite
  5. Bedwetting
  6. Keeping self from the environment (family, school, etc)
  7. Becoming more spoiled towards parents
  8. Feeling excessive anxiety and fear

 

Well, how can Moms help the children to deal with stress? Here are some of the ways:

  1. Build a sense of closeness with your children so they feel safe, comfortable, loved, and can rely on both parents.
  2. Always spare some times for them, such as accompany them watching their favorite movie or read them a bedtime story before bed.
  3. Be a good listener for your children, avoid criticizing and drawing conclusions too quick so they will be used to express their feelings, discomfort, and worries to you.
  4. Appreciate every little effort by praising or rewarding them.
  5. Ask them to exercise together.
  6. Provide guidance and direction for them in deciding something.
  7. Always love and support them so they will be more confident.
  8. If Dads and Moms are unable to handle their behavior, seek for professional’s help (psychologist or child psychiatrist).

Hopefully Moms and Dads can immediately recognize the signs of the children being stress and help them to overcome it.
